Spring/Break Art Show

Old School, New York

New York City's curator-driven art fair during Armory Arts Week. In the 3rd Annual fair forty curators will premiere new artworks created by over 100 artists, all selected around this year's central art fair theme, Publicprivate.

comunicato stampa

The 3rd Annual fair will inhabit Old School, a four-story schoolhouse located in NoLIta from March 4th – March 9th, 2014.
Through its commitment to the discoveries of curators from the five boroughs, SPRING/BREAK Art Show will again offer a unique destination for collectors, artists, galleries, critics, scene junkies & art enthusiasts during the city’s art fair week. Forty curators will premiere new artworks created by over 100 artists, all selected around this year’s central art fair theme, PUBLICPRIVATE.

PUBLICPRIVATE surveys how the high visibility of the self in the 21st Century everyday – via social network, selfie ubiquity, jealous vacation landscape, video-game avatar, and surveillance M.O. – activates and disinhibits the artist practice, and that contrary or complementary production of self which is the artist process. Curators will explore, among many topics, this public exposure as related to over three hundred artworks, along with its natural antithesis – the artist proliferation of false identities, muddled academicisms, hall-of-mirrors conceits, pretending all the while to self-portraiture.

Radiating off of this exhibition concept, three stories of the Old School will again transform into a center for artistic exploration, “Old New York-style” inhabitation (as much as such a thing is possible), formal discussion, and social common-ground.

By offering a “break” from the typical art fair model, SPRING/BREAK Art Show aims to turn observation into interaction and reimagine the trade show platform as an opportune playground, instead, of the curator’s exhibition ideal.

AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL: VIP After Hour Party
