The People’s Choice - Audio Guides for the exhibition March 27 - May 7 at Isola Art Center, via Confalonieri 10, Milan Steve Piccolo and a group of student/artists (from NABA, Milan) will prepare ‘radiophonic audio guides’ for the exhibition The People’s Choice. The guides are made by gathering the impressions, opinions, reactions and knowledge of visitors to the exhibition, local residents, people involved in various activities at the exhibition site (Isola Art Center, Stecca degli Artigiani, via Confalonieri 10, Milan), and the artists and curators of the show. Essentially, the guides are made ‘by visitors for other visitors’, with the idea of generating a circuit of communication and discussion that can also be shared with people who live far away from Milan and cannot visit the show. The guides are called ‘radiophonic’ because their sound will be based on a radio aesthetic, open to interference, static, atmospheric and even cosmic factors. The sound gathering process involves interviews and recording, with emphasis on certain key themes: 1) emotional reactions to art and the art center – vocal not necessarily verbal expression; 2) dialects/languages/slang/jargon; 3) rituals; 4) hyperlocal identity – settlement and nomadism, immigration and emigration 5) environmental quality – pollution in all its forms. The guides are being posted here as mp3 files for free download. NEW: follow the link for the audio map project by Luca Cardinali with Andrea Parenti, Tore and Erik, a work in progress. http://www.cracra.org/isola/stecca.html On May 17th, for the opening of a new show (info below), the Audio Guide team will be at the Stecca to play and record sounds and comments. Sound installation remains in the show, open for about one month. Wolfgang Träger - The Art Community portraits of 500 international artists at Isola Art Center Isola Art Center is the second stop of this encyclopedic exhibition, following the debut at “Tranzit Art Center” of Bratislava, in the Slovak Republic. Over the last 15 years the German photographer Wolfgang Träger has covered - for the most important German art magazine, “Kunstforum” - all the Venice Biennials and editions of Documenta, Manifesta and other major art events. Italian and international artists (and a few curators) are seen during the installation of the various exhibitions. in this show Isola Art Center does not present artworks, but the creators of the artworks themselves, from Mario Merz to Patrick Tuttofuoco and Monica Bonvincini, Chen Zen to John Armleder, Tobias Rehberger, Jorge Pardo and Olafur Eliasson. A cycle of about 50 b+w photos features portraits of artists from the Fluxus movement, approached by Wolfgang Träger not only as a photographer, but also as a good friend. Special projects: The event also includes three special projects created by young artists from NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milan), coordinated by Stefano Boccalini, Steve Piccolo and Bert Theis. credits in progress: guide 3 - alessandra federica mikelis guide 5 - chiara guide 6 - martin guide 7 - stefano guide 8 - enrico e mari guide 9 - martin II guide 10 - other group: tore, erik, luca, andrea |
