Three exhibitions

Kunsthaus Baselland, Basel

Lara Almarcegui is realising a major new cycle of work that will allow insight into her current practice. In the project of Alexander Gutke the viewer can walk through sculptures and projection. Katharina Hinsberg presents new, large-scale drawings.

comunicato stampa

Rotterdam-based Spanish artist Lara Almarcegui has been brought to the Kunsthaus Baselland for a major exhibition project. Almarcegui (b. 1972) became well known internationally after her dramatic presentation at the Venice Biennale in 2013, amongst other exhibitions; in Venice she created the presentation for the Spanish pavilion. For her first solo exhibition in Switzerland, Almarcegui will consider both the location and architecture of the Kunsthaus Baselland as well as the city of Basel in light of the problematics of contemporary urban development. In so doing she will enable a novel view on these themes. For the Kunsthaus, Almarcegui is realising a major new cycle of work that will allow insight into her current practice.
A catalogue on the exhibition will be published by the Christoph Merian Verlag with texts from Chus Martinez and Philip Ursprung.

The work of artist Alexander Gutke, who lives and largely works in the Swedish city of Malmo, is presented in a major institutional solo exhibition. Gutke (b. 1971) has to date taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, engaging with the topic of film projection and its perception, or even perceptibility, in subtle forms through works that are both conceptional, physical and poetic. They are often works with 16 mm film projectors, videos and slideprojections, for him at once tools for projection and sculptures, with which he creates worlds that combine spaces the viewer can walk through and projection.
His exhibition at the Kunsthaus Baselland will enable a special, unusual insight into his practice.

Katharina Hinsberg primarily uses the medium of drawing and its possibilities, while also relating drawing to space. Katharina Hinsberg (b. 1967), who lives and works several years at the Raketenstation Hombroich, uses very diverse materials for her drawings, as well as working with the methods of installation, with which she extends the dimensions of lines into space. With at times fragile materials and paper forms “drawn or cut linear structures“ she manages to transform rooms both subtly and precisely.
At the Kunsthaus she is going to pursue her interest in the mutable manifestations and different facets of process, which defines her work, through a new, large-scale work.
