comunicato stampa

Thursday 17 April will see the opening of Felix &Foam, a new initiative of Foam in collaboration with Frame and restaurant Foyer, in the imposing Felix Meritis building in Amsterdam. The City of Amsterdam asked Foam to take responsibility for the cultural programme for this building for the coming six months. Felix &Foam is honouring the building's unique history by combining art and culture, working together with various partners, photographers and artists. Besides photography, the programme includes video, film, fashion and design, with a special emphasis on work by emerging, young talent.

Until October 2014, Felix &Foam will be the place where art, culture and special events come together. The building's seven rooms, bar and foyer will be packed with exhibitions, film screenings, installations, a restaurant, surprising shops and an in-house gallery. The programme includes presentations, workshop launches and various events. Twice a week there will be a varied evening programme with music, theatre and debates, as well as Felix &Friday every Friday. The building will be open to the public seven days a week until 30 September 2014.

&Foam
Foam exhibits two photography exhibitions featuring young talent in the former concert hall. The first of these - entitled The Space Between Us - shows work by nine contemporary Dutch photographers, each of whom is engaged in exploring and portraying the human body in their own unique way. Foam's gallery, Foam Editions, is presenting a series of special limited edition prints, and the Foam bookshop is also given a prominent place in the building. In collaboration with several young artists collectives, a public studio is set up where visitors can watch work in progress and where rapidly changing exhibitions and installations are made. Each month a new collective will present its work, starting with De Fotokopie, organized by Galerie de Schans. Foam is also working with the Juliètte Jongma gallery to curate a room showing films and video works exploring the various performance disciplines within the artistic praxis. This will include work by Annika Kahrs, Ursula Mayer and Mary Reid Kelley. The former theatre auditorium will house a mixed programme featuring various partners operating on the cutting edge of different artistic disciplines, such as music, dance and theatre performances, debates and more. A Camera Obscura has been installed in the top of the building, where workshops will also be held.

Frame Stores
Frame Publishers has worked together with designers i29 | interior architects to set up two shops with a focus on fashion and design. These uniquely designed Frame Stores, a three-dimensional version of the magazine, offer a stage to new talents, products and brands from the worlds of fashion, art and design, as well as media, beauty and food. Books and magazines are also for sale, based on the Frame Publishers' own collection. In addition to this, Frame will be organising a large number of events here, ranging from launches to exhibitions and lectures.

Foyer
Young entrepreneurs are starting a restaurant in the former foyer, appropriately named Foyer. From 2 May onwards , Foyer will be serving traditional Dutch food with a modern twist, operating a lunch and dinner service.
