Nata nel 1980 a Miami, vive e lavora a New York e in New Mexico. Mostre selezionate: Tanya Bonakdar (New York), Untitled (New York), Nicole Klagsbrun (New York), M+B (Los Angeles).

Mostre selezionate: Daniel Reich Gallery (New York), Gavin Brown's Enterprise (New York), Gavlak Projects (Palm Beach), Jack Hanley (San Francisco), Midway Contemporary Art (Minneapolis), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Tate Modern (London), Milwaukee Art Museum (Wisconsin).

Mostre selezionate: Jessica Silverman (San Francisco), Croy Nielsen (Berlin), The Pratt Institute (New York City), Ottawa Art Gallery (Ottawa), Studio Gallery (Toronto), Cube Gallery (Ottawa), The Stables Studio (Ottawa).

Mostre selezionate: China Art Objects (LA), Duve (Berlin), Seventeen (London) Unosunove (Rome), Gallery-C e TEAM Gallery (New York) Lisson Gallery (London), Pianissimo (Milan).

Artists: N. Dash – Scott Reeder – Hugh Scott-Douglas – Dan Shaw-Town

Luce Gallery is pleased to open the 2012 exhibition programme with a group exhibition of four artists very much devoted to developing a non-conventional approach to the medium of painting, as envisaged – and examined – in a hybrid dimension that flourishes within a range of liminal boundaries. Starting from this field of enquiry, a potentially inexhaustible dialectical interplay is established between surface and volume, painting and sculpture, light and objects, or even time and space, whereby the illusion of form emerges as the only genuine content worth experiencing.
Blue, indigo, grey and similar hues make up the chromatic background of the entire installation, favouring a perceptual analysis that is in many ways unprecedented and capable of transcending the primacy of colour, not least in order to bring out components which may be regarded as non-traditional for painting. Representational images here give way to abstract and minimalist forms of expression, which each artist adapts to his own markedly unique language – a language that nonetheless shares the same experimental and purposefully temporary framework as the other creations.

N. Dash investigates proxemic relation between author and artwork exploring the latent sculptural qualities of painting, which she charges with a range of different meanings, steeped in symbolism expressed both through her choice of colours and through experience and witness of the material employed.
She was born in Miami in 1980, and lives and works in New York and New Mexico. Selected exhibition: Tanya Bonakdar (New York), Untitled (New York), Nicole Klagsbrun (New York), M+B (Los Angeles)

Scott Reeder in his abstract work operates on the canvas with enamel, acrylic and spray, exploiting the shadows formed by small groups of spaghetti to make his paintings visually sparkling and rhythmically charged.
He was born in Milwaukee in 1970, and lives and works in Chicago. Selected exhibition: Daniel Reich Gallery (New York), Gavin Brown's Enterprise (New York), Gavlak Projects (Palm Beach), Jack Hanley (San Francisco), Midway Contemporary Art (Minneapolis), Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Tate Modern (London), Milwaukee Art Museum (Wisconsin).

Hugh Scott-Douglas makes use of cyanotype, impregnating the canvas with a light-sensitive emulsion that once exposed to natural lighting produces wholly unpredictable variations of colour.
He was born in Cambridge in 1988, and lives and works in Toronto. Selected exhibition: Jessica Silverman (San Francisco), Croy Nielsen (Berlin), The Pratt Institute (New York City), Ottawa Art Gallery (Ottawa), Studio Gallery (Toronto), Cube Gallery (Ottawa), The Stables Studio (Ottawa).

Dan Shaw-Town creates minimalist works on paper that approach three-dimensionality. Using black lead and a spray enamel, he envelops the sheets through a methodical process that includes their marking, covering and rubbing.
He was born in the United Kingdom in 1983, and lives and works in Brooklyn. Selected exhibition: China Art Objects (LA), Duve (Berlin), Seventeen (London) Unosunove (Rome), Gallery-C e TEAM Gallery (New York) Lisson Gallery (London), Pianissimo (Milan).
