Who is afraid of red yellow and green

L’11 Luglio 2010 alle ore 20.00 The Promenade Gallery presenta: “Chi ha paura di Rosso Giallo e Verde” - collettiva artistica che abbraccia l’opera di più artisti albanesi fra i quali troviamo i nomi di Alban Muja, Adrian Paci, Anri Sala, Artan Shabani, Driant Zeneli e Fani Zguro. Questa esposizione pittorica racchiude il percorso artistico di alcuni artisti albanesi che si stanno muovendo con successo sulle scene internazionali.

Il titolo molto singolare di questa mostra è stato preso a prestito da un breve video di Anri Sala - la cui opera è parte integrante anche della precedente collettiva :”Chi ha paura di Rosso Giallo e Verde” risalente però al 2008 – video in cui l’Artista albanese presenta una situazione particolarmente insolita focalizzando la sua e al contempo anche la nostra attenzione, sull’immagine statica di un ragno che ha tessuto la propria tela esattamente sul piccolo spazio cavo posto davanti al vetro di un semaforo; il tutto con assoluta noncuranza e senza timore alcuno da parte del ragno verso quella luce verde intermittente.

Alban Muja – un Artista che vive e lavora in Kosovo – presenta invece una fotografia intitolata: ‘Prendimi’ scattata durante il suo soggiorno presso l’accademia di Santa Fé nel 2008; questa foto lo ritrae mentre corre attraverso il deserto ed in modo particolare lo scatto lo vede immortalato proprio nel momento in cui Muja sta attraversando il confine fra Stati Uniti e Messico: dettaglio che sembrerebbe voler rappresentare un semplice stato di fatto, ma che nasconde invece tutta una serie di folli paradossi e problematiche prettamente culturali, quali per esempio l’ambiguo significato del termine ‘libertà’ in un contesto come quello messicano il cui regime impone un rigido controllo dell’immigrazione illegale clandestina mentre l’economia statunitense continua a beneficiare del flusso costante di forza lavoro a basso costo, situazione che per certi versi ricorda il vissuto dei compatrioti kosovari di Alban Muja sballottati fra promesse d’indipendenza approvate e poi misconosciute che han portato per assurdo ad ulteriori separazioni territoriali; ed è proprio nel tentativo di annientare il non-sense di questi paradossi che l’Artista cerca disperatamente sé stesso e la propria identità nel mondo.

Adrian Paci ci propone invece un video il cui titolo: “Più nessuno è romantico” è punto di partenza per un tortuoso percorso alla ricerca del vero significato insito nel rapporto ‘Arte–Artista’, viaggio al centro del quale Paci pone particolare rilievo al perdurare di un archetipo che vedeva in quella relazione artistica frequenti tratti di sdolcinato romanticismo, teoria coltivata con cura ossessiva da llir Zefi, pittore e amico carissimo di Paci; il tutto pur senza cadere in scorci di patetismo grazie al cospicuo uso dell’auto-ironia ben miscelata ad un calibrato senso critico.

Artan Shabani presenta invece due fotografie intitolate: “I leoni che cantano” il cui punto nodale è rappresentato dalla disquisizione sulla dialettica esistente fra ciò che l’umanità attinge dall’Arte e dall’Architettura e ciò che invece elargisce in una sorta di passaggio/scambio di testimone.

Driant Zeneli espone un video dal titolo: ''The dream of icarus was to make a cloud'' - Facendosi trasportare da un atleta professionista l’artista infatti compie un volo con un parapendio, da cui diffonde della polvere bianca che nell’aria condensa in
forma di nuvola. Un grande sforzo per produrre un’azione molto rapida e non appariscente. La nuvola infatti dura qualche secondo per poi svanire nel vento, tra le montagne.

Fani Zguro presenta la sua fotografia intitolata:” Per dividerlo” - il cui significato intrinseco ruota sui alcuni flash riguardanti il passato e i trascorsi adolescenziali di ragazzi squattrinati che si ingegnano ad utilizzare un righello per poter suddividere equamente fra loro l’unica sigaretta a disposizione per fumare.

La mostra “Chi ha paura di Rosso Giallo e Verde” sarà aperta al pubblico fino al 14 di settembre 2010 presso i locali della Promenade Gallery sita in Bulevardi Skele Uji I Ftohte, 9401, Vlora.

The Promenade Gallery is glad to present the group exhibition of: ALBAN MUJA, ADRIAN PACI, ANRI SALA, ARTAN SHABANI, DRIANT ZENELI, FANI ZGURO

This exhibition consists of the work of some of those Albanian artists who are now working in an international context. The title of this exhibit is based on the title of one of the pieces presented, namely Anri Sala’s short video, “Who Is Afraid of Red, Yellow and Green” (2008). In this video, the Albanian artist presents an unusual situation by focusing on a static plane, as spiders build their webs over a stoplight, without fearing the tension that the latter create.

Alban Muja, an artist working in Kosovo, presents the photograph, “Catch Me” which he completed during his residency in Santa Fe Institution, in 2008, a photo which portrays the artist running through the desert. The picture shows the moment in which the artist crosses the U.S.-Mexican border. Beyond the superficial impressions of a frivolous act, this carries in it a whole series of paradoxes and cultural peculiarities, as well as the big question about what freedom means in our time. For the Mexicans this free movement across the border is as restricted and controlled as it is for Alban Muja’s compatriots in Kosovo. In these paradoxes, the artist finds the true analogues of his own identity around the world and how to overcome them.

Adrian Paci, with his video “Nobody is Romantic Anymore,” continues a search which he has started much earlier on the relationship between art and the positioning of the artist. The central object of Paci’s video is a real person, his friend, painter Ilir Zefi, who continues to cultivate a romantic idea on the role of the artist as well as art production. However, the capacity for irony, auto-irony and melancholy, combined with a critical sense, do not allow the protagonist of the video to become pathetic.

Artan Shabani, presents two photographs, “The Singing Lions,” whose focus is the dialectics between the influence and consumption of architecture on/by human beings. The music within nature, like frame of history. And yet, ephemeral signifier for the time, already evicted from naturemonument of the dethroned moment, memory’s rust on history. Lacking the shape of any natural object, the memory lives like a parasite within theevoking sound and the sound retransfers within nature thehistory (the past) along with contingent projects of objects, the missing bodies (or which are not the same)

Driant Zeneli, presents the video,''The Dream Of Icarus Was to Make a Cloud''. An action – the creation of a small cloud, something that happens millions of times on earth – is almost impossible without sophisticated aeronautical equipment. However, Zeneli considers it fundamental to try, to share with the spectator adream similar to that of Icarus. Boarded on a paraglider, the artist creates a cirrus cloud that lastsa few seconds before dissolving with the mountain wind. At that point, the paraglider is already off-camera and no traces remain of the artist and the utopia he wished to give us.

Fani Zguro, presents his photograph “To Divide it,” which highlights the past, for example, how adolescents, because they had no money would transform a cigarette into a ruler so as to equally divide it amongst themselves.

The exhibition “Who Is Afraid of Red Yellow and Green” will be open to the public until September 14, 2010 at the Promenade Gallery, Bulevardi Skele Uji I Ftohte, 9401,Vlorë.
