Sonic Residues is a unique opportunity to experience some of the best sound art in the world. Gathering together concert and installation works from across the globe (England, France, Germany, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, etc) the event is designed to encourage a wider public interest in electroacoustic music and sound art.
Electroacoustic music is a viscous, fluid and engaging media; a form that promotes sound as an exhibitable object, as well as a totally immersive environment. This premise structures the program of Sonic Residues which comprises a series of seven concerts and eleven sound installation works (which evolve across the festival period).
The event involves over 60 (local and international) composers and sound artists including works by established, internationally recognised artists as wel as relative newcomers to sound art. The cross-pollination of these differing levels of experience encourages a dialogue about approaches, perceptions, aesthetics and techniques including use of the Internet to stream sound and data from distant lands.
Sonic Residues also features forums outlining techniques in sound spatialisation, and fostering a debate about the possible divisions between 'academic' and 'fringe or popular' electronic music practices.
The evolving exhibitions, concert program and ongoing discussions during Sonic Residues attests to the myriad forms and formats for contemporary sound art. And for the very latest developments in programming check the Sonic Residues website.
