Artist's Talk
On December 13th at 8pm, the emblematic Aurora Building screen inPudong will feature a video work by internationally acclaimed artist FrancescoVezzoli. With this project,promoted by the Italian Consulate of Shanghai on the occasion of the Italianpresidency of the Council of the EU, the work of Francesco Vezzoli will be shownin China for the first time. The new artist's video has been produced incollaboration with the Shanghai based curatorial platform Arthub, and theAurora Museum. The work isstrictly linked to Francesco Vezzoli's recent research about the use of colorin antiquity. The artist has been collaborating with a team of archaeologists,conservators and polychrome specialists, to paint ancient Roman busts in themanner in which they would originally have been decorated. The video that willbe presented on the Aurora building -on the 62 meters high LED screen overlooking theHuangpu River from Pudong-will feature the artist himself portrayed as a CryingRoman Togatus. The tear on his face quotes Vezzoli's emblematic signatureseries of glittering tears, embroidered on worldwide iconic celebritiesportraits. On Saturday the13th at 2pm, before the unveiling of the new video work, the Aurora MuseumTheatre will host a talk in which Francesco Vezzoli will be seen inconversation with Leo Xu, Shanghainese art critic and director of Leo XuProjects. The images of Francesco Vezzoli's artwork on theAurora Screen will become part of the ongoing documentary Ossessione Vezzoli, directed by Alessandra Galletta, to be released inthe Spring 2015.
