Eva Weinmayr

VTO, London

Alchemic Dross. The works are based on abandoned road signs found on London streets. It is the sharp contrast between the pockmarked, beaten-up metal on one side and the subtle opalescent surfaces on the other, which are the distinguishing features of the panels, lacquered in a Formula 1 spray shop on the outskirts of Munich. By this intervention Eva Weinmayr transmutes the discarded, the detritus of society, into shimmering ever-changing imagery subject to light and the movement of the viewer.

Alchemic Dross

VTO is pleased to present recent works by the German artist Eva Weinmayr.

Eva Weinmayr's earlier works 'Today's Question' are lacquered on prefabricated aluminium sheets. This series is based on 'text polls' dealing with current political questions such as Should we stay in Europe? Get out or Stay in. A selection of these works will be part of the exhibition 'Intervention' at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton (30. September 15. November)

'Alchemic Dross' is EvaWeinmayr's first solo show in London. Her artistic practice has included site-specific projects as well as works in public spaces and artists' books. 'It was awful a brand name analysis ', has recently been published by Revolver Publishing, Frankfurt. The artist has been awarded a US bursary for 2004.

Supported by Kulturreferat München and Institut für Auslands-beziehungen e.V.
