A Firenze dal 21 al 24 novembre si terrà la quarta edizione de LO SCHERMO DELL'ARTE FILM FESTIVAL, diretto da Silvia Lucchesi, una rassegna che riunisce film d’artista e documentari sull’arte contemporanea. Come già nelle passate edizioni, il Festival è diviso in tre sezioni Sguardi (film dedicati adalcune delle maggiori figure dell'arte contemporanea tra cui i ritratti di Anselm Kiefer, Gerhard Richter, Urs Fischer, Elmgreen & Dragset) Cinema d'artista (film realizzati da artisti tra cui Sarah Morris, Anri Sala, Armin Linke) e Festival Talks (incontri con gli artisti Sarah Morris, Omer Fast e Armin Linke)a cui si aggiunge quest'anno Mobiles, con una straordinariavideo-installazione dell’artista israeliano Omer Fast, TALK SHOW, che sarà visibile dal 20 novembre al 3 dicembre a Cango-Cantieri Goldonetta (Firenze)

dove terrà anche una lecture aperta al pubblico domenica 20 novembre, alle ore 11.30. Mobiles è un nuovo programma espositivo che, in luoghi diversi dalla sala cinematografica, presenta singole opere di artisti internazionali legate alle moving images e ai new media. Mobiles prende il titolo dalle sculture di Alexander Calder e, come quelle, è un progetto mobile, leggero, adattabile a differenti esigenze.

L’artista inglese Sarah Morris sarà la protagonista della serata inaugurale del Festival lunedì 21 novembre all’Odeon Firenze con l’anteprima italiana di due recenti film: “Points on a Line” (2010) e “Chicago” (2011). La serata organizzata In collaborazione con il Museo Marino Marini sarà introdotta da una conversazione dell’artista con Silvia Lucchesi, direttore del Festival e Alberto Salvadori, direttore del Museo Marino Marini. L'artista italiano Armin Linke presenterà il suo film “Alpi” martedì 22 novembre (ore 21.00) all'Odeon Firenze, dove lo stesso giorno alle ore 16.15 terrà una lecture.

La IV edizione del Festival sarà l’occasione per mostrare in anteprima il video Ladies and Gentlemen di Luca Bolognesi, opera vincitrice della prima edizione del Premio Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival 2010. Il video del giovane artista ferrarese si propone quale documento divulgativo dei principali temi affrontati da Sir James Ephraim Lovelock, scienziato indipendente, celebre per aver formulato la teoria di Gaia che dimostra come il pianeta Terra sia l’unico superorganismo vivente. Sarà inoltre annunciato il progetto vincitore della seconda edizione del Premio, che sarà prodotto nel 2012 e proiettato nel corso della quinta edizione del Festival. I dieci artisti sono: Alterazioni Video, Anna Franceschini, Riccado Giacconi, Francesca Grilli, Christian Niccoli, Valerio Rocco Orlando, Giulio Squillacciotti, Santo Tolone, Luca Trevisani, Nico Vascellari. Sono stati selezionati da Cecilia Alemani, Federica Bueti, Alfredo Cramerotti, Ilaria Gianni e Simone Menegoi.

Il Premio Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival, unico esempio in Italia, è un contributo di 10.000 euro per sostenere la produzione artistica originale e di qualità di giovani artisti italiani emergenti nel campo del video di età inferiore ai 35 anni. Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival è nato a Firenze nel 2008, ed è un progetto originale e unico in Italia diretto da Silvia Lucchesi, tra i pochissimi nel mondo ad occuparsi specificamente del tema della relazione tra arte contemporanea e cinema. Fin dalla sua prima edizione, è incluso nella rassegna “50 giorni di cinema internazionale a Firenze” organizzata da FST ‐ Mediateca Toscana Film Commission con il supporto di Regione Toscana. Si volge nell’ambito del progetto di iniziativa regionale “Toscanaincontemporanea 2011”.

The 4th Edition of LO SCHERMO DELL'ARTE FILM FESTIVAL will be held in Florence from Nov. 20–Dec. 3, 2011, at Cinema Odeon and Cango Cantieri Goldonetta. Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival is one of the most important international festivals dedicated exclusively to contemporary visual arts. United within its rich program are documentaries, artists' films, video-installations and meetings with their authors, in the following sections: Cinema d'artista, Sguardi (Glimpses), Mobiles and Festival Talks. Furthermore, the film that won the first-ever Schermo dell'Arte Prize will be shown during the Festival, and the winner of the next edition's Prize will be announced. The Prize is awarded in order to support video production among young Italian artists.

The Cinema d'Artista program begins with Sarah Morris as its protagonist. On Nov. 21, the Festival's opening night, she presents her films "Points on a Line" and "Chicago", two metropolitan portaits characterized by a hybridization of image and sound, with music specifically composed by Liam Gillick. The cross-contamination of image and music plays a fundamental role in other artists' films on the Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival's program: "Alpi" by Armin Linke, a collage of emblematic images, sounds and situations from the complex alpine landscape; and "1395 Days Without Red" by Anri Sala, which takes us back to the dramatic days of the Siege of Sarajevo.

Also at Cinema Odeon, within the Sguardi section, feature-length films about the protagonists of the current art scene will be presented. Among them: "Gerhard Richter Painting" by Corinna Belz; "Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow" by Sophie Fiennes, about Anselm Kiefer; and "Urs Fischer" by Iwan Schumacker; "How Are You" by Jannick Splidsboel, about Scandinavian art duo Elmgreen & Dragset; "William Kentridge" by Susan Solinas and Charles Atlas; "Tinguely" by Thomas Thümena; and documentaries on stories from present and past, such as "The Treasure Cave" by Bahman Kiarostami, on the Teheran Museum of Contemporary Art; "The Desert of Forbidden Art" by Amanda Pope and Tchavdar Georgiev, on Russian collector Igor Savitsky; and "Art and Oligarchs" by Tania Rakhmanova, on the new super-rich Russian art patrons.

With Mobiles, the Festival begins a new program of exhibitions in places outside the cinema, in order to present works by major international artists who express themselves with moving images. From Nov. 20 to Dec. 3, at Cango-Cantieri Goldonetta, Israeli artist Omer Fast's video-installation "Talk Show" will be presented. The piece centers around the power of media and its relation to truth, and to the description and narration of reality.

Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival 2011 is further enriched by the Festival Talks program, opportunities for deepening knowledge. Encounters are scheduled with artists Omer Fast (November 20), Sarah Morris (November 21), Armin Linke (November 22). Furthermore, on Thursday Nov. 24 at Cinema Odeon Firenze, the winner of the second Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival Prize 2011 will be announced. The Prize is awarded to sustain original, high-quality video production by young Italian artists in the video field. The prize-winning project will be produced in 2012 and premiered during the 5th Edition of the Festival. The 10 artists invited to participate (selected by Cecilia Alemani, Federica Bueti, Alfredo Cramerotti, Ilaria Gianni and Simone Menegoi) are: Alterazioni Video, Anna Franceschini, Riccardo Giacconi, Francesca Grilli, Christian Niccoli, Valerio Rocco Orlando, Giulio Squillacciotti, Santo Tolone, Luca Trevisani and Nico Vascellari.

The premiere of the film Ladies and Gentlemen, by Luca Bolognesi, follows at 9:30 p.m. The film won the first edition of the Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival Prize, in 2010. The young Ferrarese artist's video presents itself as a promotional documentary on the major themes treated by Sir James Ephraim Lovelock, an independent scientist famous for developing the Gaia Theory, which suggests that Planet Earth is in fact a unique living super-organism.

Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival began in Florence in 2008. It is an original project, unique in Italy, directed by Silvia Lucchesi, and is among the very few festivals in the world, which deal specifically with the theme of the relationship between contemporary art and cinema. Since its First Edition, the Festival has been included in the "50 giorni di Cnema Internazionale a Firenze" program organized by FST ‐ Mediateca Toscana Film Commission.
