The Internationale Gesellschaft der Bildenden Künste (IGBK) invites European artist associations and networks that have their own exhibition spaces and run international exchange projects to participate in ART SWAP EUROPE. An open forum for presentations and a workshop will take place in Berlin on 11 and 12 October 2008 in cooperation with the Akademie der Künste.
Artist-run initiatives and project spaces initiated by artists play an important role alongside the established art market. They not only facilitate contact between the artist, the artwork and the audience, but also give artists the opportunity to grapple with other artistic perspectives. Artist-run initiatives also permit experimental approaches, since most of them are not commercially oriented.
A large number of such artist initiatives and networks are already cooperating with one another in various ways throughout Europe. Links are usually established through personal contacts.
On 11 and 12 October 2008, IGBK will host an open forum for presentations of concepts and spaces, for discussions and face-to-face meetings. About 80 project and exhibition spaces will be presented in an exhibition by means of display boards, photographs, catalogues, leaflets and other information material. We are also expecting the presence of many initiators for conversations and a series of lectures.
The project is initiated by Werner Schaub.
