Having been short-listed for British
Art Show 6 (of
which the final line-up is to be announced imminently),
Richard Hughes presents a solo show of new work at The
Modern Institute from Saturday 4 June until Sunday 15
July.
Richard Hughes' practice combines meticulous attention to
detail with a slacker aesthetic. Taking the source
material and means to produce his work from the most banal
of urban environments, Hughes introduces both high art and
pop cultural references into his practice to create
engaging and powerful sculptural works. These references
are informed by Hughes' sharp eye and wry humour, to build
a gentle commentary on collective states of being, such as
the group experiences found in any subculture.
Hughes has been short-listed to take part in the British
Art Show 6 (of which the final line-up is to be announced
imminently), along with fellow artists represented by The
Modern Institute, Toby Paterson and Eva Rothschild.
Taking place every five years, British
Art Show
showcases artists from all over Britain who have made a
significant impact during this time.
From rising stars to established figures, the exhibition
will contain a wide variety of work including painting,
photography, video, drawing and installation.
